Tooth Removal

Tooth extraction is a common procedure performed to remove a tooth affected by disease, crowding, or damage. During the extraction, the dentist will numb the surrounding area and remove the tooth. Some bleeding is normal following the procedure, as your mouth forms a blood clot in the area to replace the removed tooth root.

Proper post-operative care is crucial for optimal healing after an extraction. Your dentist will provide detailed instructions on how to care for the extraction site. It is important to allow the area time to heal, and avoid activities that may irritate the site such as smoking, using a straw, or consuming foods that require excessive chewing.

If you experience any complications, such as excessive swelling or bleeding, it is imperative to contact your dentist immediately. Pain medication may also be prescribed, as needed. While you can continue to care for your other teeth as usual, it is important to avoid cleaning the teeth adjacent to the extraction site.

If you are experiencing pain or discomfort, we recommend visiting our office without delay for a consultation. Delaying treatment can exacerbate the issue and lead to longer recovery times.
